Lourdes Group

Our parish has taken a group to Lourdes on pilgrimage every year since 1986. In this time, we have travelled with hundreds of parishioners and raised tens of thousands of pounds to part-fund the helpers who enable our less able and elderly pilgrims to come with us.

We are a happy and welcoming group that ensures the pilgrimage is a good mixture of faith and free time – it’s a pilgrimage holiday! We celebrate Mass together each day with the kind of lively music with which parishioners of the Sacred Heart will be familiar!

During the course of the week, we pray the Stations of the Cross and attend the torchlight and Blessed Sacrament processions as a group behind our banner and flags. We also share a special Holy Hour together. A highlight of the pilgrimage is our candle ceremony, where we light and bless a large parish candle and read the names of those from the parish who have asked us to remember them at the Grotto.
